Hi, I have installed the IRAF v2.15 Linux64 on Fedora Core 14. Everything seemed fine until trying to run xgterm, where I get the following error message:

xgterm: error while loading shared libraries: libncurses.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

There are a number of results from a Google search of this error, but the popular solution of creating a symbolic link to the libncurses.so.4 libraries or changing binaries (e.g http://www.iraf.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=86362) have not worked. Can anyone please suggest another solution to this?

Try the statically linked binary at http://iraf.net/ftp/pub/xgterm.LNUX.STATIC

You can also install the following libraries in Fedora 64-bits in order to use X11IRAF properly:

# yum install libXmu.i686 libXt.i686 libSM.i686 libICE.i686 libXext.i686 libX11.i686 ncurses-libs.i686

That way you don't need to download the statically linked XGterm, but it's up to you.
