intallation of NOAO files

hey..
i have noao files.... nb.rhux.x86.gz.
but as i m goin to unzip it with command tar -zxvf
it shows error like.......
[size=18:63039530dc]gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--format violated
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now[/size:63039530dc]
i hve tried for files downloaded from web. and also from CD which i have

You don't say which IRAF version this is, but I suspect the file is corrupted in transfer somehow. If you download from the web, be sure to use 'binary' mode, note that depending on the browser you use this isn't guaranteed so a direct 'ftp' or 'wget' is preferred over the "Save As" menu option from a web browser.
As for the CD, we haven't produced one in years so I can't comment on it's validitiy. If you tell me the IRAF version you're installing I can send you a checksum to validate it.
