Installing on amd64 Kubuntu Lucid Lynx (10.04 LTS)

I've been trying to install IRAF on an 64-bit Kubuntu (10.04) and I've been having a lot of trouble, I'll try to describe each one, since I've tried many ways:
1) I tried to install with the geco.phys.columbia.edu/~rubab/iraf/ script, two things happened: 1st, some errors trying to install i386 packages on amd64. At the end of installation, no mkiraf was found.
2) Then I forced dpkg with --force-all, so it did install. X11IRAF gave some error when installing binaries, then I deleted everything and began again.
3) I edited the script so dpkg would force install the i386 packages, and ran through it again. It ended ok, but there was no mkiraf to be found.
4) I logged in with iraf user on kubuntu, and mkiraf, as expected, was available, but when starting iraf, only ds9 would appear, anyway. I'd either have permission issues with my own account or things wouldn't come up properly in the iraf account.
...so, I'll be trying to install 2.15 64-bit binaries, but I would appreciate if anyone can help me understand what I can do to make it easier.

I managed to do it myself by installing Fernando Avila's awesome compilation:

I just had to edit the installing script so it didn't check if gfortran-4.2 was installed (mine is 4.4).
