Installing IRAF on Windows Vista

Guest wrote on Jan 28, 2009

Hello,
I am trying to install IRAF on my Windows Vista PC.  I have already installed DS9, but I was looking at the FAQs for IRAF and I can't seem to find if there is a way to successfully install it on my computer.  If you can, please let me know the best way to go about this installation process.
Thank you very much,
Rachel

I believe you need to install Cygwin and then the Cygwin version of IRAF. I don't know whether Cygwin has problems under Vista though; their FAQ still seems to say "Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003". If that doesn't work, I suspect you're out of luck unless you can install Linux in a virtual machine or dual boot.

Cheers,

James.

This HowTo link got my systems to run it fine, on XP and Vista:

I'm currently editing a few scripts to make the install of iraf much easier, based off of the above document.
