IRAF 2.14 for Mac Intel installation problems

Nanyao Lu wrote on Feb 05, 2008

Just downloaded IRAF 2.14 for Intell chip-based MacBook pro and placed the files according to the installation instruction. Then cd to /iraf/iraf/unix/hlib/
and did "install -n". Everything went okay with no errors in the end. But after
the installation, I could not find "/usr/local/bin/cl" nor "/usr/local/bin/mkiraf."
As I made the iraf account an admin account, I do have write permission
to /usr/local/bin. Actually, I installed xgterm there already. If anyone knows
what went wrong here, please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Check that /usr/local/bin is in your path (i.e. "echo $path") so the commands will be found, and edit your .login/.cshrc/.bashrc as needed. When new commands are installed, a 'rehash' is sometimes required to pick it up, but if you can start things explicitly with a /usr/local/bin/mkiraf command then it installed properly.

I use a MacBook with MacOSX 10.4.11 and I had the same trouble when I was installing.

In my case it worked by
sudo ln -s /iraf/iraf/unix/hlib/libc/iraf.h /usr/include/iraf.h
sudo ln -s /iraf/iraf/unix/hlib/mkiraf.csh /usr/local/bin/mkiraf
sudo ln -s /iraf/iraf/unix/hlib/cl.csh /usr/local/bin/cl.

I'm not sure it is correct procedure or not..
