Hi Emma,
You can get a newer binary from
ftp://iraf.noao.edu/pub/fitz/x11iraf-v1.3.2-bin.redhat.tar.gz
These are Redhat binaries but should work on your system. If not, then
try using a hacked source distribution at
ftp://iraf.noao.edu/pub/fitz/x11iraf-new_gcc.tgz
You can compile from source using the commands
% xmkmf
% make World
