iraf and Linux RHEL 4 / Fedora 4

Dear IRAF Team:
many people in my institute are having problems with IRAF on RHEL 4.
I read that RHEL 4 is based on Fedora 4, thus I suppose all FC4 users
will experiment similar problems. Simply, many pre-compiled binaries
do not work on such operating system, which is not surprising since
FC4 is a major upgrade involving a new version of gcc.
I could not find any information about this problem in the FAQs.
- Is there any short-term plan at NOAO to distribute IRAF binaries
for FC4/RHEL4 ?
- An an alternative, we can try a full rebuild ourselves starting from the
sources. Can you point me to the main how-to document(s) for this
task ?
