xgterm problem

IRAF Folks,
I installed the latest version of IRAF and X11IRAF on a
computer with the latest version of Red Hat Linux Enterprise
edition. It runs fine except that plotting doesn't work, and
this appears to be related to a failure to run xgterm. When
I type 'xgterm' I get the following error:
xgterm: error loading shared libraries: libncurses.so.4:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I did check /usr/local/bin and found that the xgterm binary
was present. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Best,
