Flat lamp spectrum

Hello,

I have previously posted this in the wrong forum - sorry.

I wish to process longslit images up to and including spectra extraction. It appears from my reading that when flat correcting object spectra the flat lamp spectrum needs to first be removed from that flat lamp (with the response task) if variance weighting or the clean option is to be later used during extraction.

Can someone please advise if this is so?
