Cant run iraf using cl command

Hi, I´m very new to iraf and Ive just about managed to install it, but when I type ´cl´ on the xgterm terminal I get the following:

¨cl-launch.sh 2.32 --shell wrapper generator for Common Lisp soft´

For help........

Thats about it, iraf simply doesnt run, Ive had a look at some documentation and it could be that the path name is incorrect so login.cl can´t communicate with iraf?

Assuming you ran the IRAF install script properly (as the root user, without the '-n' flag, etc), the message means that either the 'local bin directory' you specified (typically /usr/local/bin) isn't in your $path variable, or else occurs after the /usr/bin directory where the Lisp interpreter 'cl' command is sometimes installed.

Do an "echo $path" to see if the path is included in your environment, and/or adjust the location of the iraf local bin directory. To verify it is indeed a path problem, you can also try starting by explicitly using the full path, e.g.

% /usr/local/bin/cl

Ok, when I did an echo $path nothing prompts up...which i guess it means, its ok.

Also, I checked in % /usr/local/bin/ where ds9, xgterm etc are but cl is not there, that might explain why i can run ds9 etc but not cl..so path variable is fine, I thought i had installed cl. Where can I get this?

Ok, I got it to work, I reinstalled iraf and i was then able to run cl in /usr/local/bin

Although when I reinstalled iraf I got the following errors

Editing the iraf user .login/.cshrc paths ... [ FAIL ]
*** Cannot find the iraf .cshrc file
*** Cannot find the iraf .login file

I´m also curious as to why we have to create a separate user account called ¨iraf¨ to install iraf?
