Help please?

Guest wrote on Jun 02, 2009

Dear whomever:

My name is Joseph Martin and I am an undergraduate student at UW-Madison currently working summer research. I have zero experience in programming. The graduate student who is my immediate supervisor is unavailable for the next week to help me understand IRAF properly due to his upcoming preliminary tests. I was wondering and hoping that by contacting this office, you might steer me towards a site that has a step by step tutorial on how to work IRAF along with downloadable files for the tutorial. Many websites that pop up when I Google 'IRAF Tutorial' DO go step by step....for their research. I have a week in which I'm supposed to try and familiarize myself with this program and I would like very much for some feedback on possible sites to look for this information. I believe we are using the Spitzer and WIYN-Hydra to calculate low-infrared redshift. I'm a greenhorn guys, can I get some help? :D

Sincerely,
Joseph Martin

Exercises are available from ftp://iraf.noao.edu/iraf/misc, see the 'exer211.readme' file and and the software/images are 'exer211.tar.Z'. These are rather old but still useful, otherwise see the various beginner's guides and reduction cookbooks available from the Docs link. If you have specific questions you can post them here.
