Configuring and using IRAF

I have downloaded and installed IRAF on my MAC OSX. I am unable to configure or use IRAF. When I try to mkiraf, I get a command not found error. Please help, I really need to use iraf and have no idea,

A 'command not found' may just mean the 'local bin directory' where you installed the IRAF commands isn't in your path. Normally this is /usr/local/bin but depends on how you obtained/installed the system (e.g. the SciSoft distro, from this site etc). Anyway, you need to adjust the path defined in the .cshrc or .bashrc file depending on your shell to include the iraf commands directory.

Ok. Now I don't get the command not found error, but I am now getting 'SCISOFT BIN: Undefined variable" when I try mkiraf.

Assuming the SciSoft folks didn't change the mkiraf script, check the .cshrc file (which is read automatically when the script is executed) in your unix login directory for possible problems related to the scisoft environment variables. You may need to source some setup file or define a 'SCISOFT' root directory as part of the installation but this isn't and iraf error message.
