New to the Community

Hello,
I am extremely new to the IRAF community. I have had IRAF installed on my computer for less than a week. I basically have no clue what I am doing with this software system, so I figured that one of the best things that I could do is register to the community forums. So, here I am.
I have been charged by my research group, as a lowly master's student, to learn all I can about this IRAF and then present to the group what it is. I have a decent presentation of the who, what, when, where, why part of IRAF, but I wanted to include an example of it in action. That, and it will also let me know if my installation was done correctly.
The problem with that is I have no clue what I am doing. I have thumbed through several of the documents online, and even searched the forum. But it seems that most of the receipes are geared toward advanced users and are quite technical. Does anyone have a suggestion of a basic example that I can use to learn from and will also impress my peers at the group meeting?
Thanks a bunch and I look foward to being a part of the community.

Hi, z000m.
You should start by reading the Introductory materials in the document sections. In particular "A Beginner's Guide to Using IRAF". Then over at the NOAO's IRAF site there's some tutorials with real data to play with ( http://iraf.noao.edu/tutorials/tutorials.html ). That should be exactly what you wanted. Good luck.

I have a copy of the "Beginner's Guide..." and it's crazy helpful. Thanks for the suggestions on the tutorials.
