SPLOT error

Mao yewei wrote on Apr 17, 2008

Hi, does anyone know what is "PANIC in `/iraf/iraf/noao/bin.redhat/x_onedspec.e': File write error (STDERR)" meaning? This occurs when quiting SPLOT task by q-key, and then the xgterm doesn't response any more...

The message generally means what it says, there was some error writing to the standard error stream. I can't tell just from the message whether this was because it was trying to write an error to the CL at the time, or whether something was corrupted earlier and this was part of the process shutdown.

Was this a matter of just "cl> splot foo" followed immediately by a 'q' to quit, or did you do some processing in between? Does the former quit normally? Can you narrow down which parts of the latter trigger the error? Assuming you can find a reproducible pattern and can post the image and your parameters we can track it down, but this has never been reported before and there are no known problems to explain it. Is this a v2.14 system (w/ or w/out the Jan14 patch)?

Hi, Mike! Thank you for attention! I'm using v2.12.2a.

This error occurs when I measure spectral lines by k or d-key. It cannot quit normally. I have to close xgterm window to continue, and the created file "splot.log" contains nothing. If I do no measurement, it appears normal.

This error comes sometimes but not always. For example, I faced with that this morning, but now it seems to be normal... :?
