Error message using demos in LONGSLIT

I am running IRAF on a MacIntel iMac, and was testing out the system using the demos option in LONGSLIT. This used to run just fine on my PowerBook G4, but now I get this error message:

Any thoughts? I was wondering if it had anything to do with the change in platform. Thanks!

The error message just means that 'demoflat.fits' already exists. The default behavior is to not overwrite existing files/images, this is controlled by the 'clobber' and 'imclobber' environment variables you can change.

Hi Mike. I am sitting here at the 31-inch telescope with Ed Anderson. Looks like the problem is with the new Mac platform. ? We tested with imcopy:

imcopy Demoflat demoflat

and similarly with cp

cp Demoflat.fits demoflat.fits

In both cases they claimed we were overwriting a file or that the files were the same. It appears that filenames are not case-sensitive. Is there a way we can fix this?

Hi Catrina,

Sorry, the Mac HFS filesystem is case-insensitive so 'Demoflat' and 'demoflat' are seen as the same file in the underlying OS (Note also that ':' can be used as a directory delimiter). It's possible to format HFS to be case-sensitive in Tiger and later, however it means wiping the partition clean to do it.
