Problems with iraf tutorials

H.J. van Heerden wrote on Sep 01, 2006

Hi All

I have been teaching myself IRAF using the official tutorials available from the IRAF Home Page. The tut's is for 2.11, and i'm using 2.12.2a. I have been able to figure out how to do things using ds9 instead of XImtool, and working with .fits instead of .imh files.

I have to know and be able to work with IRAF, because i have to teach/explain the concepts to my fellow astrophysics students.

The problem/error tat is currently keeping me occupied is in Exercise 4: CCD Photometry analysis. I have worked through the tut up until i have to create the "sobs" file using "mknobsfile". After editing (epar) mkobsfile and running it i get the following message:

The input list of APPHOT/DAOPHOT databases (*.mag*):
The list of filter ids (60,50):
The input image set file (imsets):
The output observations file (sobs):

Observations file: sobs
Warning: Image set: 1 label: M92 image: m92011
Data for filter 60 is redundant
Image set: M92 0 stars written to the observations file
Warning: Image set: 2 label: M92 image: m92014
Warning: Filter 50 does not belong to filter set ,60,0
Warning: Image set: 2 label: M92 image: m92015
Warning: Filter 50 does not belong to filter set ,60,0
Image set: 2 Label: M92 has no data

If anyone has encountered this and may know what has gone wrong, your help would be greatly appreciated.

I still have to get to PSF fitting of photometric data using DAOPHOT, but i would like to know how to use the older aperture analysis and calibrations procedure's.

Thanx
Pat

Sorry all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I missread a line and buggered-up the imsets file.
After going through the process a tenth time, I happened to notice the ERROR.

I put it down to stress!!!! and end-of-week lack-of-energy.

Again sorry.

Regards
Blind Pat
