rvsao on Lion

Roberto Merighi wrote on Jan 12, 2012

Hello,

i have a MacBook Pro running IRAF release (2.15.1a) under Lion Mac OS.
I would like to install RVSAO package. I have used the new IRAF procedure to add packages (make RVSAO) to the system and, apart an error message (concerning the Templates directory symlink not created because already present) the installation finished well.
The problem is that, every time i try to use xcsao, i get a "segmentation violation" error. The same happens if i run emsao command.
Does someone knows if the package is to be considered in "production state" or is still undergoing some implementations to run in 2.15 IRAF version?

Best regards

Roberto

The RVSAO package has been around quite a while and the version installed by the "make rvsao" in v215 is the 32-bin binary distributed by SAO for the latest release (and so can't be a 64-bit issue). If other tasks in the core system (e.g. IMSTAT or IMPLOT) have similar problems then it may be data-related and you should upload the image to ftp://iraf.noao.edu/pub and I'll have a look, otherwise it may be a bug in RVSAO itself and you should contact SAO (dougmink@cfa.harvard.edu) with the parameters you used and the data file so they can investigate.

Thank you for your comment. As a matter of facts, the system is working quit well and i am not experiencing problems with other tasks. I will continue to make tests and eventually i will contact Doug Mink for suggestions.

Best regards

Roberto
