Annotating plots using gcur

I'm trying to label plots generated by sgraph, in particular the vertical axis. Using =gcur I've been trying to set the up and path parameters in txset so that the vertical axis label reads from low to high with the letters 'lying on their backs', as it were, i.e. the way graphs are usually labelled in journals. Can't seem to find the correct combination of the up and path parameters. I can't just use the sgraph axis labels because I am mixing Greek and Roman characters.

Any thoughts on how to do this?

PS By brute force I found an answer to the above question, but when I run the :.snap eps and look at the eps file, I get spaces between the roman and greek fonts, e.g.

Ha (alpha) looks like H a (where last a is a greek alpha). Is there a way to get rid of the spaces?

I' glad you figured it out. BTW, for graphics text that has the up/path changed like this, note that you'll also need to do ":.txqual hi" to reset the text quality so that it is rendered with the changed on the terminal, otherwise you might only see the changes in the hardcopy. For some devices, you'll also need to do this before creating the text so the metacode is written properly.

As for the space in the H-alpha: The spacing and size of the greek fonts is hard-coded in the stroke tables used to write the characters. You could use separate 'T' cursor commands to create the 'H' and the 'alpha' separately. Another idea might be to use a task like IGI to append the plot with the annotation, it also has ways to create greek chars and rotated text and could be used instead of the cursor mode. Hope this helps.
