igi problem

emanunez85 wrote on Apr 08, 2011

Hi
I have just installed the IRAF 2.15.a1 installed the external packages like tables and stsdas. I have Mac Book Pro 13" OS X, version 10.6.7 with Intel Core i5 processor.
Everything seems running properly except for 'igi' task. I tried to run it in xgterm but it gives me an error. It says, "ERROR: segmentation violation called as: 'igi ()' "
I'm not sure if this is a major or minor problem. I'm not good at unix scripting. I'm just self studying.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Emmanuel

A segmentation violation is usually a coding problem but can sometime be triggered by the input. The TABLES binaries are unmodified from what is distributed by STScI and I'm not able to reproduce the problem using simple input, so your best bet may be to ask the STScI helpdesk (help@stsci.edu) to see if they are aware of any issues. They will probably need to see your parameter settings (e.g. "cl> dpar igi") and input igi file in order to debug this.
