ds9 + imexam

There seems to be a focus issue occurring between imexam and ds9, I'm checking here first before I pester the guys over at ds9.
Problem:
display is issued in xgterm, ds9 opens the image, imexam is issued, cursor changes, and I click in the ds9 main image window to change focus to ds9. I can issue any of the keyboard commands per normal, until I change the view in the main window via the panner tool in ds9.
I found the first solution was to re-click in the main image to capture focus back.
I was wondering if there was a way that image focus would not be lost by using the panner, or is it necessary because there are new coordinates?

This is either an issue with your window manager or DS9 itself. Changing your focus policy to 'focus follows mouse' might be another solution.
A cursor read is simply a command sent from IMEXAM to the display server (ds9 here), the server then goes into "read mode" and you get a blinky cursor but interactions with the focus and panner are at that point entirely between the server application and the window system. If you contact SAO they'll probably need to know more details about your system (OS version, window manager, etc).
