The forward task produces real and imaginary components that vary rapidly from positive to negative; these produce a phase that do the same. What don't I know that explains this?

Please post a link to the image and the task parameters you used. I'm having a hard time understanding whether what you describe is unexpected. If you run the INVERSE task do you get something looking like the original data?

I took the 250x250 image; padded it with zeroes to 256x256;then I interchanged opposite quadrants. That seem to produce the right answer.
