MSCTPEAK failure to fit a new WCS

Greetings ya'll!
I'm an undergrad here at CU-Boulder and have been using IRAF/PYRAF for several years. Right now I'm using MSCTPEAK to update the WCS of a few tens of images of the Orion Molecular Cloud-1 using the massive Hubble Cycle 14 mosaic of Orion.
The problem is that the WCS coordinates that came with the image are off by several arcseconds, and so updating is necessary. My test image is of the Trapezium, and I have 8 widely-spaced stars that have good centroids on both my image (in near IR) and the Hubble image. I have a list of coordinates and positions that I derived using RIMCURSOR, and when I run MSCTPEAK, it runs beautifully, right up to where I hit "f", which is the call to run CCMAP. At this point, a new window pops up (labled "irafterm") where I think CCMAP is supposed to run interactively.
This window remains,sadly, blank.
I can quit out of MSCTPEAK by hitting 'q', but there is no way to interact with the 'irafterm' window. It remains blank (clicking only allows rectangles to be drawn), and even though this window should be interactive, there is nothing that I can do aside from close the window. Clicking on my ds9 window and hitting "q" still quits out of MSCTPEAK, but the header information of my image is not updated, and my database file remains empty.
I have no idea how to get this window to behave itself! Any insight :idea: would be greatly appreciated!

This sounds like a fairly basic though important problem. First make sure you are running IRAF in an xterm or xgterm window! The try a simpler task that makes a plot (say "implot dev$pix"). If that works, and you say you are an experience IRAF user so you probably know what the graphics system should do, then I would be at a loss. Oh, you could try and call CCMAP directly (make up some dummy data if necessary) and see if that works. There is really nothing mysterious in MSCTPEAK since it simply executes CCDMAP.
If this doesn't point you to a solution let us know and we will have to try and figure out what is wrong with your installation.

Oh, I just notice your mention of PYRAF. We don't use PYRAF within the NOAO IRAF group and so it may well be that the problem is because you are using PYRAF instead of the CL. You can either us the CL for this work or you can try and get help from STScI (help@stsci.edu).
