New to IRAF, getting APALL to work through Cygwin;

Hi Folks, let me begin by apologizing for my naievety. This is my first go at using IRAF, and my objective is to reduce spectra and deduce radial velocities. However, I am having problems getting apall to run as it should. I am using IRAF in cygwin (OS: WinXp) and the following nonsense occurs when I try and engage apall. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Garbage like this always means a terminal mismatch of some kind. Be sure you've started X first with the 'startx' command, and be sure you're running IRAF from an actual XGterm window (or an XTerm if you set the terminal in IRAF to some flavor of 'xterm')\. You'll need to install XGterm separately and can get binaries from the X11IRAF links on the main iraf.net page.
Be sure you are NOT using the default Cygwin terminal window. You can use the XTerm that comes with Cygwin but the graphics aren't as pretty, just rerun MKIRAF an answer 'xtermjh' (a flavor that doesn't overwrite graphics with the status line) when asked about the terminal type, or type 'cl> stty xtermjh' at the CL prompt. If you're using an XGterm window the correct prompt for the terminal type is 'xgterm'.

Hi Fitz, thank you. I went ahead and reinstalled everything from scratch and it now seems to work. You will certainly be getting more questions from me, but again, thanks and apologies for the naievety.
