ds9 is cropping my image

Hello, i'm displaying my images with ds9 and i noticed that the whole image is not shown at all. Ds9 only shows a cropped version... my image is about 2048x2048 pixels and i found no configuration in ds9 that allows me to load bigger images... it seems that the images cann not be larger than 512 px... why is that? shouldn't be this automatic?

You need to reset your 'stdimage' environment variable, e.g.
The GDEVICES command will show you a list of available configurations and you can reset this permanently by editing your login.cl file. If you still only get 512x512 then it probably means the /usr/local/lib/imtoolrc link isn't installed, work around by rerunning the install script or else copy the $iraf/dev/imtoolrc file to ".imtoolrc" in your unix login directory.

thanks, that worked for me. But is this reset command permanent? say if i login with the cl command language again? thanks again

If you do it on the commandline then it lasts only until to change it again or logout, that's why I said you can uncomment/edit the default setting in your login.cl file for a more permanent change.

I think you can also change the display command defaults by "epar disp" and then set fill=yes. It would be permanent unless you change the fill parameter.

What the 'fill' param does in this case is scale down the 2K image to fit in the 512x512 frame buffer, i.e. you'll see the entire image but you can't zoom down to natural pixel resolution. This is fine for many applications and in general a good way to speed things up by using smaller frame buffers, but is something to keep in mind. Thanks for bringing it up.
