XGterm does not find app-defaults

I am trying to install X11IRAF 2.0beta.
I encounter problems with xgterm finding the app resource defaults, and I get an inactive window.
What do I have to do? The install script was used, putting the app defaults in
/usr/lib/X11/app-defaults .
iraf@aitmvx:~> ls -l /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/
total 12
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4048 Nov 19 14:14 XGterm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5508 Nov 19 13:44 XTapemon
However, other app-defauts (e.g. for XTerm), are located in
/usr/share/X11/app-defaults .
If I put XGterm in there, nothing changes - xgetrm window is still inactive.
We are running SUSE Linux 10.3
iraf@aitmvx:~> uname -a
Linux aitmvx 2.6.22.18-0.2-default #1 SMP 2008-06-09 13:53:20 +0200
