conclude response task

tneve wrote on Aug 08, 2008

Hello!
I'm new at all this IRAF and Unix thing.

I'm running the task response to obtain the normalized flat spectrum and everything seems to be working well: I edit the task with epar response, put in the names of the files, :go, I say yes when it asks if it should fit the normalization spectrum interactively.
After that, it opens an irafterm window with a very nice graph. I managed to choose the window I want (with w and then e in each corner), but I can't go further than that.
How do I finalize this task, so I can subtract the normalized flat to the other images I have to reduce?
This might be a silly question, but I've been through the help a thousand times and googling and still didn't manage to do anything more.
Thanks in advance for any help!

You might want to have a look at a couple of the reduction guides in
the Docs section of this web site. I can recommend the Users Guide to
Reducing CCD Data with IRAF. It discusses how to use "response" prior
to **dividing** your data by a normalized flat.

Hi,

I'm sorry if this is confusing. I thought the task gave you a prompt. The interactive fitting is just to set appropriate parameters such as the order and any sample regions. When you are happy you type 'q'. Then it will prompt you for a new line. You can pick another line to check how well the parameters work on that line. When you are satistified with the parameter you hit return when prompted for a line. At that point the task will go through every line using the last set of fit parameters to produce the response result. Note when I say line this really means line or column depending on the setting of the DISPAXIS in the header or package parameters.

Yours,
Frank Valdes
