problems with msctpeak in mscred

rcarrera wrote on Jul 17, 2008

Dear all

I have a problem with msctpeak. I have used this task in some images and it runs without problems. However, in another few images (all the images were taken in the same run) it fails to center any star in the image with keys k, l, or j. At first sigh, the images are ok. They have good seeing, etc. There are not differences between the images where the task runs successfully that those where it doesn't.

I suppose that this problem could be due to the centering task. I have tried to modify the parameters in imcentroid, but i did get anything. Which task uses msctpeak to center the stars?

Can you help me??

Thank you very much,

Ricardo Carrera

Hi Ricardo,

That does seem mysterious. The command msctpeak executes is:

imcentroid <image> reference="" <coords> <shifts> <boxsize> verb+

where it supplies the parameters in the angle brackets. Any other hidden parameters take their current setting. So you can influence the centering with those. The safest thing to do is "unlearn imcentroid". If that still fails and you've adjusted the boxsize in the msctpeak parameters then I have no idea what is wrong and I'd have to try and reproduce the problem with your data.

Dear Frank,

thank you very much for your answer.

I did the unlearn in imcentroid. I also tried with different boxsize values, even with large or small numbers, but nothing works. I modified other parameters in imcentroid like tolerance. I also tried to do it in another computer, with similar results,

For my, it is also very mysterious, because for other images in the same run, even in the same night, and with the same filter, the task works quite well.

Cheers,

Ricardo
