echelle package APNUM

I am attempting to use the IRAF echelle package to wavelength calibrate some HIRES data. The spectra have been extracted using an external software package, but I have added the APNUM keywords and also the WAT0_000, etc keywords. This process worked fine for 2 out of 3 CCDs in the instrument, but when I try to do it with the third, it wants more apertures than exist. I get an error such as: ERROR: Image header parameter not found (APNUM9)
no matter what task I try to run. But there isn't an APNUM9. I tried adding in a dummy one, but then it wanted APNUM10, and then when I did it again, APNUM11. I don't understand what it's doing or why it is crashing. Help?
