Standard star catalogs

H.J. van Heerden wrote on Mar 04, 2008

Hi all

I created a standard star catalog using "nedit" with the same structure as the landolt catalogs, with all the associated files. The problem is that when I use it to fit data using fitparams, fitparams gives me a unidentified source error.

Q. Must the catalog be created using mkcatalog, and how do you exit mkcatalog once you are done, because nothing seems to work?

Thanx
Pat

Hello Pat,

There is nothing special about the tool you use. If you look at existing standard star data files in the catalogs directory and match them then you can use any editing tool. MKCATALOG is designed to simply guide a user to the right format. I'm not sure what problem you are having. If you would like to attach the files to a email to valdes@noao.edu and send me the command and parameters you are using as well as the exact error message I'll let you know what the software thinks is wrong.

Yours,
Frank Valdes

Hallo Frank

Thanx for the message. I sorted out the error, misunderstood its meaning.

Want to include the SAAO E-region,F-region and CPD standard stars, and to enter them one by one is gonna take long time......

I think I know what to do and how to go about the process. It is the final steps in the finalization of the initial photometry package that we will be using at Boyden-observatory. There is still some developement projects left, like a automatic "black box" photometry pipeline, but we'll get to that later.

Thanx for the help
Regards
Pat
