USNO has just acquired one of STA's new 10.5Kx10.5K devices. The
biggest imt around though is 8192. What's involved in making a new one? (Probably best to make it 10600x10600, just to be on the safe side...)
CCDs just keep getting bigger....
thanks,
phil

Hi Phil.
Is this a single detector? Imagine what a mosaic of these would look like 8-)
See for example http://iraf.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=85490&highlight=imtoolrc+custom
I'm about to start the final v2.14 builds and can easily add new frame buffers, but note that 10K CCDs will hit "the 64-bit issue" pretty quickly. Discussions are underway about a 64-bit port and when it might happen and how, but realistically it'll be next summer before something is ready. Still, this is the first real case we've heard about where a single chip will have this problem, and I doubt it will be the last. Let me know if you still have questions.
Cheers,
-Mike
