daofind floating point divide by zero

dee_kaee wrote on Jun 19, 2007

I can not get daofind to work. Everytime I run it I immediatley get a "floating point divide by zero error." I have used it before with and without this error occuring but this time I can not seem to get around it. It does not seem to matter what parameters I use, or what images I use it on. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Please post your IRAF version and the type of platform you're on, as well as whether this happens with any other tasks. There is no known issue with DAOFIND, however there was e.g. a known FPE problem on the earlier macintel ports affecting all tasks.

You can rule out parameter problems by unlearning the task parameters or doing a MKIRAF and logging in through some scratch directory to use the default params (e.g. run one of the help page examples). If it happens only with this image and not another that would also be good to know.

You suggestion of using a dirferent iraf directory seems to have fixed it. There must have been something wrong, even though all the parameters seem to be exactly the same. Thanks.
