How to caluclate flux in continuum region?

Ana2007 wrote on Mar 05, 2007

Hello,

I would like to calculate the flux in a continuum region of a spectrum but I cannot find out how. For my analysis I need to measure the quotient of the flux in an emission line (is OK) and the flux in a close by continuum region. I use "splot" fo the analysis.

Does anyone know how to do that?

Thanks,
Ana

Hi Ana,

I suggest you consider the task SBANDS. This is not interactive like SPLOT but I think is more like what you want to do.

In SPLOT you could use the 'e' key. This simply adds up the flux. You would ignore the equivalent width it computes and only used the "flux" value.

Hi Frank,

Thank you very much for your reply. "sbands" is exactly what I need and it works very well.

Ana
