Following some initial difficulties under 2.12.2a, I thought I'd mention that I was able to compile the Gemini IRAF package and all of its dependencies under IRAF 2.13 beta 2 on Ubuntu 6.06 with no problems (note that gemini currently still recommends using 2.12.2a, but I have switched due to an SPP compilation problem that I had under Ubuntu).

This packages involved are the following:

tables 3.6 (although gemini 1.9 nominally uses 3.5)
stsdas 3.6 (although gemini 1.9 nominally uses 3.5)
fitsutil
nmisc
gmisc
color
gemini 1.9

For IRAF itself, I used the "redhat" binaries since "linux" binaries haven't been distributed yet, unpacking them in iraf/iraf/bin.linux and iraf/iraf/noao.bin.linux and copying the contents of iraf/iraf/unix/bin.redhat to iraf/iraf/unix/bin.linux. Note that you must keep the original copies of the HSI binaries in iraf/iraf/unix/bin.redhat as well, otherwise you won't be able to compile stuff because xc is hard-wired to look there when it is built (thanks, Mike, for explaining that). You also need to get the updated fcgetcoords.x from http://www.gemini.edu/sciops/data/dataSoftware.html) and recompile the longslit package, so that some of the gemini tasks work properly (should be unnecessary in the final 2.13).
