Subscripts in axes labels

Hi
Can you give me some information on how to do sub/superscripts within axes labels using splot? I have spectra where I have fitted emission lines within splot and need to produce plots of the data with the fit overplotted. I know to change the labels and units using :/xlabel and :/xunits but when I try to use \u and \d to get sub/superscripts it doesn't seem to work. Is this the correct way to do it, or does this only work with IGI?

Sub/superscripts are not currently implemented for graphics labelling. You could use IGI to make the plot and labels once you're ready with the final plot (e.g. use WSPECTEXT to create a wavelength/flux table of values to plot and an igi script to draw them), or use SPLOT to make a plot without labels and then append the graphics with an IGI script the only does the labels (assuming you can match the plot viewports). Is there a way I can write out the wavelength and flux values of the fit to an ascii/text file so I can produce a plot of both the spectrum and the fit with other software such as IDL?

Depends how/what you're fitting, but generally not. If you're fitting a spectral line with a gaussian then it should be easy to use the parameters of the fit to draw the gaussian in IDL, if it is say the continuum fit with a spline then it isn't as easy (but still possible with work, search for other questions about how to evaluate a spline/polynomial given the coefficients).
