Spectool numbs to keystrokes and xgterm crashes

So, on MacOS X running Tiger and xgterm, there is a reproducible problem I'm having with spectool.
I load up a spectrum. I use the "continuum fit spectra by curve fitting of spectra" or whatever the words are, which works. I then normalize the spectra by the continuum. Now the Read Spectra window and the Register window are numb to keystrokes - they won't focus properly and I can't type in them. When I close the Register window the whole thing dies:

I'll try and study this in the next few weeks.
