Is there a way to iteratively fit the same function (all the user parameters remains the same) using nfit1d to a set of tables containing 2 columns (x,y)?

Maybe you need to ask with more details and an example. This is because it seems what you are asking is exactly what nfit1d does. Maybe you are new to IRAF and don't know what is meant by an input list. In nfit1d the input may be a list of files containing the x,y values. Two common ways of providing a set of data (called a list or filename template) is with wildcards (e.g. *.dat) or with a file that contains the filenames where you then use @<filename> to indicate the file is to be read and each line in the file is to be interpreted as an input file. In addtion you can just list the files with commas and no whitespace (e.g. abc.dat,def.dat,efg.dat).

Hi,

I am new to IRAF. But the problem I have regarding nfit1d is the following.
I have multiple tables of the form i*.tab, containing two columns of data. I tried
" i*.tab xcolumnname ycolumnname" as the input to nfit1d. But the complaint was failure to open i*.tab. Using tprint I checked each of the i*.tab and it was capable of opening it. nfit1d works with "i1.tab xcolumnname ycolumnname" . So is there any solution to open these files iteratively without opening the files individually? I even tried creating a file containing all the names of i*.tab and using the command nfit1d "@filename xcolumnname ycolumnname". That also didn't work. Please tell me how to overcome this problem. I have to do the same thing for many such tables.
