When I try to run xguiphot on a Suse linux distribution using xgterm, it doesn't display the image but all the function run correctly, so if for example i have to do photometry on a star i have first to read the coordinates with ds9 and then search the star by reading these parameters without look at the image.

XGUIPHOT uses the same graphics/image widget as XImtool and so suffers the same 8-bit-display limitation. When used for graphics only the Gterm widget has no problems with TrueColor display, otherwise it needs the same workarounds as you'd use to run XImtool. If you start the XGterm from another widow first you should see the "BadMatch" errors confirming this.

Ok, is there a simple way to turn xguiphot display in 8bit mode while using xgterm, or i have to work with gterm and ximtool only?

The "simple" way is to start up a VNC server/viewer in 8-bit mode and run the XGterm there when using XGUIPHOT.
'Gterm' is the widget name, it is used both by XGterm and
XImtool but requires an 8-bit display for its imaging features.
To start an 8-bit VNC use

vncserver -depth 8 -cc 3 :1
vncviewer :1

and start an XGterm in the viewer.
