cheers, Jim

Not by us anyway. If history is any indicator then most likely
it will continue to work with the exception of IRAF networking. There
may also be problems with compilation depending on whether libraries were
reorganized again but we can usually fix stuff like that through site
suuport.
If anybody *has* tried iraf under Solaris 8 could you please
followup with your experiences?

Hi Jim,

Someone out there may have tried it, but we have not seen Solaris 8 yet
here at NOAO.

We have one Solaris 8 server here, but I have not tested IRAF
on it yet.

I'm currently running both IRAF and AIPS through our Workshop 6
Early Access F77 and F95 compilers on a Solaris 7 Ultra60 and
Ultra80 however.

Ok, we've done a little test by running rfits on a solaris 8 machine
that accesses
a tape drive on a solaris 7 machine. This seems to work. We realise
this is only
the tip of the iceberg, but it looks encouraging for those sites who
want to upgrade
sooner rather than later.
