ximtool error

Klunko Evgeny wrote on Mar 22, 2000

Can anyone help me ?

I just install IRAF and X11iraf
that I've downloaded via ftp from iraf.noao.edu.
I have no expirience to work with it.
My first goal is just load any
probe image to the screen of my computer.

I read that I may use 'ximtool' to view "*.imh" files.
But when I run it (from KDE session), the following
text has been shown:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Warning: Cannot convert string "center " to type Justify
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 72 (X_PutImage)
Serial number of failed request: 3683
Current serial number in output stream: 3688
-------------------------------------------------------------------
What does it mean ?

To be exact, this error occurs when
"x11iraf-v1.1-linux-glibc-bin.tar.gz" used.

When I probe two other packages,
"x11iraf-v1.0-linux-bin.tar.gz" and
"x11iraf-v1.1-linux-bin.tar.gz"
I receive short message
"Segmentation fault".

--------------------------------------------------
Circumstances:
- Pentium II 400, 128 Mb
- Slackware Linux 2.2.13.
- NOAO PC-IRAF Revision 2.11.3 EXPORT
- x11iraf-v1.1-linux-glibc-bin.tar.gz

I'm not an expert too, but I guess the problem with your XWindows
configuration is related to the color bit planes you're using.
I mean: Ximtool only supports 8 bit color squeme (2^8 colors).
Sometimes XWindows is configured with 16 and sometimes 32 color
  bitplanes. Please check this out.

If you ran XConfigurator to configure the Xwindows, don't let it
specify the mode (e.g. 1024x767x16 the typical case) but
rather tell him you want to choose the display mode.
Choose the resolution your hardware supports but be sure to
select it in the 8 bits column.

  Hope it help.
  Regards

  Fabricio
