Emacs CL editting mode?

John Ouellette wrote on Oct 21, 1999

Is there some clever person out there who has written an emacs
editting mode for IRAF CL scripts? They would have my undying
gratitude and admiration if they posted it on this newsgroup.... =8-)

Signed, someone-not-clever-enough-to-write-his-own-emacs-modes,
John Ouellette

P.S. I know there was an SPP editting mode posted a while ago, but,
with all due respect to the IRAF people, I really hate
programming
         in SPP....

John,
Back in '92 Jonathan Eisenhamer at STScI (eisenhamer@stsci.edu)
sent us mail announcing an emacs SPP mode he'd developed but I can't find
a copy of it locally. I'm sure if you contact him he'd be happy to
send it to you (he's not on this mailing list) or perhaps one of the other
ST folks who use it will post it? If you do get a copy feel free to post
it here (or adass-iraf-sources) in case others would be interested.

Cheers,
Mike Fitzpatrick

I keep a copy of Johnathan's spp mode in my anonymous ftp
directory. The url is:

ftp://ra.stsci.edu/pub/bsimon/spp-mode.el

Feel free to copy it and make it available from a more prominent
location.

Well, what the heck --- since nobody else has jumped to offer an Emacs
mode for CL script editing, I humbly submit my contribution. It's a
modified version of Fundamental Mode with support for CL-style
comments and a default tab width of 4 (to keep nicely-indented scripts
from running off the right edge of the screen). I've placed it in the
IRAF FTP area at this URL:

ftp://iraf.noao.edu/iraf/contrib/cl-mode.el

Help yourselves!

	Aloha,

	Greg Wirth
