IRAF V2.11.3 UPGRADES COMPLETED
Wed Dec 15 20:14:03 MST 1999
The IRAF V2.11.3 workstation upgrades promised last week are now available
for downloading. This includes support the following platforms:
IRAF Distribution Description OS Version
DUNX Compaq/Digital Unix DU V4.0B
HPUX HP Unix HP-UX B.10.20
IRIX SGI IRIX IRIX 6.5
AIX4 IBM AIX AIX 4.1
VMS7 OpenVMS OpenVMS 7.1
This completes the IRAF V2.11.3 upgrades for all platforms. Upgrades for
Sun systems (Solaris and SunOS) and the PC-IRAF systems (FreeBSD, Slackware
Linux, RedHat Linux, SuSE Linux, and Solaris x86) were released on December
7. All of these systems are essentially equivalent so far as IRAF usage
is concerned.
Any existing IRAF installations earlier than Version 2.11.2 must be updated
to add support for Y2K. This includes support for the new Y2K-compliant
FITS date formats, as well as a few related bug fixes.
RedHat Linux users should note that support for RedHat 5.2 has been added
to PC-IRAF as an optional set of binaries. Instructions for installing
the RedHat 5.2 binaries is given in the README file in the PCIX distribution.
Support for this older version will be dropped after this release.
All of these distributions are available on iraf.noao.edu in /iraf/v211.
The README files describing each distribution are available in
ftp://iraf.noao.edu/iraf/v211/<platform>/README
where <platform> is one of DUNX, HPUX, IRIX, AIX4, VMS7, SSOL, or PCIX.
The full distribution has been regenerated for all platforms. Patches
(to upgrade an existing IRAF installation) are optionally available for
all platforms except AIX4 and VMS7.
Additional detail on these releases and other IRAF developments is available
via the IRAF web pages at http://iraf.noao.edu.
See the URL http://iraf.noao.edu/v2112revs.html for a detailed description
of what is included in the fall 1999 V2.11.2 and V2.11.3 patches. Most
of the new features were introduced in V2.11.2. V2.11.3 mostly consists
of additional bug fixes, minor changes related to the PC-IRAF upgrades,
and a few isolated minor application enhancements. The system notes file
(iraf/local/notes.v211) documents these revisions in detail for the core
system.
Any problems that come up after the release will be either noted in the
distribution README files or posted to one of the IRAF mailing lists
(adass.iraf.system, adass.iraf.applications, adass.iraf.buglog, etc.).
You may want to subscribe to one or more of the mailing lists to keep up
to date on IRAF developments, to get answers to problems, or otherwise
stay in contact with other IRAF users and the IRAF developers. To subscribe
to an IRAF mailing list, either use the form at
http://iraf.noao.edu/subscribe.html
or send a subscription request to the IRAF list server at
listproc@iraf.noao.edu.
